A home is supposed to be the safest place for a child. But what happens when that very home becomes a source of fear and abuse? Every day, we wake up to shocking news, and here’s another horrifying incident—a brother sexually assaulted his own sister. Following this brutal act, the police have registered a case under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
Such incidents shake us to the core, yet countless children face sexual abuse within their own homes. Unlike in other situations, these children cannot simply walk out the door and escape. Fear, the perpetrator’s authority, and the family’s concern for reputation often force the victim into silence. This is precisely why such crimes, even when they occur within the confines of a home, often remain hidden from the world.
The POCSO Act, implemented in 2012, was designed to protect children from sexual offenses and enforce strict regulations. Whether at home or outside, any sexual act involving a child under 18 is considered a severe crime under this law. The Act prescribes harsh punishments for perpetrators to ensure the safety of children.
On the other hand, society often dismisses such incidents as mere ‘family matters’ and chooses to remain silent. But this silence is the biggest shield for offenders!
If a child is being abused by someone within the family, they must have the opportunity to confide in a trustworthy person. If there is even the slightest suspicion of misconduct, immediate action must be taken. Silence only helps the perpetrator, whereas swift legal action is essential to ensure justice for the child.
In this case, the police have arrested the accused under the POCSO Act. But the question remains—will true justice be served, or will this case, like many others, fade into oblivion?
The safety of children is not an option—it is a necessity. It is high time that families, society, and the legal system come together to act, before it’s too late!
