School Ragging: The Tragedy of Mihir Ahammed

Arsha Ravi

A dark day in Kerala's education sector-one that will never be forgotten. Mihir Ahammed, a 15-year-old student at Global Public School, Thiruvaniyoor, Ernakulam, tragically ended his life on January 15 by jumping from the 26th floor of his building after enduring severe ragging at school.

Mihir was a constant target of his classmates. He was forced to lick toilet seats, had his face shoved into a closet and flushed, and had to endure relentless verbal abuse.

These were the horrors that defined his school days.

When schools remain silent about bullying, the psychological damage inflicted on children can be devastating. Today, we lost Mihir.

Tomorrow, will it be another child? Schools that are meant to ensure the safety of students— why are they failing to uphold the trust of parents?

It is our collective responsibility to Implement strict anti-bullying laws in schools, Encourage better communication between parents and children, Provide mental health support for students, Take legal action if necessary.

Ensuring a safe and secure learning environment is the responsibility of every individual in society. To prevent another Mihir from suffering the same fate, let us take action today!
