Tiger attacks have once again created fear in Wayanad district, leaving residents deeply worried. On January 13, 2025, in the Pulpally area, a tiger attacked and killed a goat belonging to Keshavan, bringing the issue of tiger threats back into the spotlight. The Forest Department has deployed special teams to capture the tiger and has started intensive efforts in this regard.
Radha’s Tragic Moment
On December 20, 2024, Radha (58), a homemaker from Thalapuzha near Sultan Bathery, fell victim to a tiger attack. While in her courtyard, the tiger dragged her into the forest and killed her brutally. This horrifying incident shocked the entire region, leading to protests from local residents.
Another Heartbreaking Incident
Earlier, on December 9, 2024, Pratheesh (36), a young man from Moodakolli, was killed in a tiger attack. While cutting grass for his cattle in the afternoon, he was attacked and killed by the tiger, further intensifying fear among the local population.
Residents’ Concerns and Demands
Even today, fear lingers in the minds of the residents. The Forest Department is actively trying to capture the man-eating tiger, but human-wildlife conflict continues unabated. People have organized protests across various areas, demanding urgent measures to end the tiger threat.
The Need for Peaceful Coexistence Between Humans and Wildlife
These recurring tiger attacks in Wayanad are a stark reminder of the consequences of disrupting the balance between humans and wildlife. The shrinking of forest areas and the destruction of natural habitats are major causes of human-wildlife conflicts.
It is not just a duty but also our responsibility to find a fair solution to this issue. Strengthening forest conservation efforts and curbing human exploitation of nature are essential. Alongside protecting wildlife, measures must also be taken to ensure the safety of rural communities.
The relevance of adopting a lifestyle that harmonizes with nature cannot be overstated. When humans collaborate with nature, environmental destruction and the suffering of wildlife can be prevented.
Finding a path to coexistence is the key to the future.
